Aquifer identification by using induced polarization method in Lampineung Area, Aceh Besar
Abstract
Aquifer availability is an important issue in supporting clean water needs, Particularly in coastal areas with limited access to adequate water resources. Residents in the Lampineung area, Aceh Besar Regency, still rely on shallow wells with brackish and less suitable water quality for daily consumption. This study aims to identify aquifer layers in Lampineung Village using the Induced Polarization (IP) geoelectrical method with the Wenner–Schlumberger configuration. Data acquisition was conducted through two survey lines followed by subsurface modeling using Res2Dinv software to obtain chargeability distribution. The results indicate variations in chargeability values associated with differences in lithological characteristics beneath the surface. Low chargeability zones are interpreted as water-saturated layers with relatively good permeability, indicating potential aquifer presence. In contrast, high chargeability values are associated with more compact lithological units or clay-rich materials. The interpretation suggests that aquifer zones in the study area are distributed at several depths with varying groundwater potential. This study demonstrates that the Induced Polarization method effectively identifies subsurface aquifer characteristics and provides scientific information for groundwater exploration in Lampineung.
